BROCK VS WIMBERLEY

Four of the last seven years, either the Brock Eagles or the Wimberley Texans have been to AT&T Stadium.

To test their readiness to return to the state championship game, Brock and Wimberley will face off Friday night at McLane Stadium in Waco.

Brock had been a state powerhouse in many sports for decades, they were reluctant to try football because they feared the extra burden would hurt the other programs. Once they gave it a try in 2012, Brock ranked 18th is 3AD1 quickly became great at football too.

Brock has a 116-17 overall record in football, a .872 winning percentage.  In ten years of football, they’ve had four undefeated regular seasons.  They enjoyed an undefeated state championship season in 2015 – their fourth year fielding a team – and lost in the state championship game in 2017 and 2021.  They’ve played at least 13 games every season since 2014, and have never lost more than 3 games in a season.

For their part, the Wimberley Texans who are ranked 13th in 4AD2 have made 13 straight playoff appearances, advancing to the third round or further 9 times in that span.  They made it to the 2019 4A Division II State Championship game, losing 21-35 to Pleasant Grove.  The program won state championships in 2005 and 2011.

Brock is among the leading contenders for the 3A state championship, but is 0-2 after losing the Pleasant Grove (7-28), a 4A state quarterfinalist last year, and Wichita Falls Hirschi, a 4A state semi finalist last year (30-37.)  Wimberley will represent yet another strong 4A opponent for the Eagles; should Brock be defeated, they would match their program record for losses in a season at three…. and still must be taken seriously as a state championship contender.

Wimberley (2-0) has victories over Canyon Lake (21-14) and first-year program San Antonio Pieper (0-35.)  Their quarterback, Cody Stoever, has completed 20 of 33 passes for 263 yards.  Eight different players have caught a pass, led by Noah Birdsong’s 6 catches for 132 yards.  Stoever, Jack Boyle, and Johnny Ball have each exceeded 97 yards rushing.  Troy Heugly leads the defense with four sacks.
